Smart choices for a happier thanksgiving

While Thanksgiving dinner is a time for indulgence, that gratification can quickly turn to regret after you’ve stuffed yourself full of saturated fats and carbohydrates. Making smarter choices at the holiday table can make for a more enjoyable holiday weekend. Here are a few tips that can save you from Thanksgiving meal lament:

  • Eat well earlier in the day. Make sure to eat breakfast and lunch on the day of your big meal.  To avoid binging at the dinner table it’s best not to show up starving.
  • Skip the appetizers. You’re about to sit down to a big delicious meal. Why spoil it?
  • Stick to healthier sides. Fill up on colourful veggies, and go easy on the starches. Also, hold the butter.
  • Go light on the gravy. Gravy is often loaded with fat and sodium. It’s tempting to drown your plate with it, but just a little bit should satisfy.
  • Avoid reaching for seconds. One plate is enough. After all, you’ll want to save some room for dessert.
  • Drink plenty of water. Water helps you to feel full, aids digestion, and some say it can even boost your metabolism.
